Impervius Lead

Lead is almost unparalleled for its longevity, malleability, corrosion resistance, and recyclability. And NELCO makes the most of the uniquely soft, heavy, and ductile qualities of lead by utilizing it in a virtually unlimited number of applications. From Casting and Lining to Roofing and Flashing, the world looks to NELCO for the highest quality lead products.

Your situation is unique. Why not make the most of it? Based on a tongue and groove design, NELCO’s interlocking lead brick produces the most effective shielding utilizing the smallest amount of space. Ideal for providing additional shielding to existing therapy vaults or treatment rooms, the lead brick system can also be utilized in a freestanding lead room, such as an HDR Brachytherapy room, for shielding a full range of modalities. Modular bricks allow for easy installation or removal for relocation, even in difficult spaces. Lead brick can also be used in new construction as an efficient method of reducing wall or ceiling thickness for the most advantageous space savings.

Does NELCO lead-lined drywall pass LEED certification requirements?
Yes.

LEED™ NC Version 2.2, MR Credits 4.1 and 4.2: Recycled material content

• Indicate recycled content and provide manufacturer’s written certification of recycled steel and lead products

• Indicate percentage both post-consumer and pre-consumer recycled content per unit of drywall, plywood, and lead products.

LEED™ NC Version 2.2, MR Credit 5.1: Local/regional materials

Can NELCO help determine appropriate drywall size and lead thickness?
Yes. Our physicists and experts will gladly assist in determining the best size, lead thickness, and wall layout to meet site requirements.

How are drywall pieces sealed together?
NELCO supplies 2″, 3″ or 4″ lead batten strips to shield the seams between each drywall piece, and typically either lead discs or lead tabs to protect the area where screws are attached. Lead discs cover the drywall screw heads, while lead tabs wrap behind the metal stud to protect the screw penetration.

Does NELCO shield penetrations such as electrical outlets, wall outlets, light switches, etc.?
Yes. To ensure an impenetrable shielding system, we also offer lead pieces (of equal thickness to the drywall) to line any penetrations, including electrical boxes, wall outlets, etc.

Can you add more than 1/8″ lead to drywall?
If more than 1/8″ lead is required, NELCO recommends you use our lead-lined plywood.

Is the drywall fireproof?
No, once lead is adhered to fire-resistant drywall, it loses its UL fire-resistance rating. However, NELCO does offer a full, fire-resistant drywall configuration (UL V439).

Lead plate from NELCO is produced on a rolling mill and then cut to size for use in a broad range of medical applications. The high density and high atomic number of lead plate makes it a highly effective construction material in shielding vaults and areas in medical facilities from gamma rays and x-ray radiation. Lead plate can be used wherever protective radiation shielding is needed, in walls, window frames, and doors. We also design the shape and size of every mold to minimize waste and avoid increased manufacturing costs. NELCO lead plate conforms to various ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) specifications, it resists corrosion as well as most chemicals, and it is manufactured to consistent standards in a variety of thicknesses and sizes.
There’s nothing better than working with material that works in your favor. As the most malleable of all common metals, lead sheet, plate, and ingot can be bent, formed, shaped or cut to easily suit all applications. Our experience with its high degree of flexibility, density, and corrosion resistance enables NELCO to continue to be a leading global producer and installer of lead for a variety of industries and shielding needs. NELCO designs the shape and size of every mold to minimize waste and aid ejection of the ingot in order to avoid increased manufacturing costs. With lead sheet, plate, and ingot from NELCO, you’ll be in excellent shape.

Homegeneous Lead Bonded Linings

NELCO’s lead burning experience and high level of quality is unsurpassed in the industry. Lead burning is also knows as lead welding and may be performed during the installation or maintenance of lead linings and coatings. The process involves using a lead burning bar which matches the same chemical compound of the lead being fused together. The material being joined along with the burning bar are heated with a torch the two are then melted and fused together.

Whether you are looking to fabricate new equipment or repair existing NELCO provides lead burning services both onsite and at our manufacturing facilities for:

• Tank Linings
• Vessel linings
• Lead Pipe
• Lead Storage Containers
• Lead Roofing

Lead Burning services may be provided on a scheduled or emergency basis.

All lead burning is conducted under our industry leading environmental, health and safety programs and guaranteed by our ISO 9001 accredited quality assurance program.

Lead Flashings

A lead roofing system isn’t complete without lead flashing from NELCO. Our experts install thin, continuous pieces of lead sheet to deter water surface tension and prevent it from seeping into a structure from a particular joint or angle. Our lead roof flashing is precisely positioned and secured around objects that protrude from the roof. The flashing dissipates the driving force of wind and water to deflect it away from each seam or joint. It works to waterproof protrusions such as pipes, supports, and cables. Lead flashing from NELCO ensures maximum water deflection for proper roof protection.

Lead Annodes

NELCO manufactures lead anodes in a large variety of shapes and sizes from plate, cast or extruded lead. In the event we don’t have the size or shape you need we can custom manufacture to any criteria.
In addition NELCO offers drilling, tapping, machining and assembly of the lead anodes. If required we can also fabricate and attach new header bars to the anodes.
All lead anodes are manufactured and assembled under the strict guidelines of our ISO 9001 accredited program.
