The use of PVC linings like Koroseal have in the recent years declined, because over the years the plating shops have started using drop-in VC liners. Some plating and anodizing shops still use lead line tanks and use the Sheet lead liners for anodes, to conduct the electric required for plating and anodizing.
6% antimonial sheet lead is used in Anodizing tanks because the lead is hard and conducts the cool 72 degrees temperature needed for the anodizing process. 6% antimonial lead pipe cooling coils are used to chill the acid.
Chemical sheet lead (99% pure) is primarily used for storage tanks and vessels that contain acid and waste acid.

Autoclaves are used in the mining process to extract materials such as Gold, Silver and copper from ore. NELCO is trusted by nearly all of the most well-known companies in the industry.
Each Autoclave is lead lined in the same manner, first we begin by stripping the inside of the vessel down to bare metal at which time we can line the vessel in one of two methods. The first method is to 100% homogeneously bond the lead to the outer walls of the vessel. The other method is strip bonding which involves 100% homogeneously bonding strips of lead every 2’ on center to the outer shell. 2’ x 4’ x ¼” lead panels are then burned to the strips. This method is the preferred method as it will help to localize any possible acid leaks and reduces overall cost. The final step in process is to install brick on the inside of the vessel.
The outcome is an extremely durable, long lasting and extremely heat resistant autoclave.
Since NELCO was founded in 1932 lead linings for the metal finish has been a core product and service offering.
Plating and Anodizing Tanks NELCO fabricates lead lined plating and anodizing tanks to your specification. The tanks can be constructed of carbon or stainless steel in any of our 3 manufacturing facilities on the east, west and gulf coasts. The typical lead thickness is ¼” or you may specify the desired thickness.
We also repair and refurbish existing plating and anodizing tanks this can be done at your facility or ours.
NELCO’s lead burning experience and high level of quality is unsurpassed in the industry. Lead burning is also knows as lead welding and may be performed during the installation or maintenance of lead linings and coatings. The process involves using a lead burning bar which matches the same chemical compound of the lead being fused together. The material being joined along with the burning bar are heated with a torch the two are then melted and fused together.
Whether you are looking to fabricate new equipment or repair existing NELCO provides lead burning services both onsite and at our manufacturing facilities for:
Lead Burning services may be provided on a scheduled or emergency basis. All lead burning is conducted under our industry leading environmental, health and safety programs and guaranteed by our ISO 9001 accredited quality assurance program.
