Lead-lined Windows and Door Frames

Window Frames

NELCO lead-lined window frames support lead glass and/or leaded acrylic, allowing for viewing in areas where radiation is present. Two types of hollow-metal window frames are available:

  • Telescopic frames
    • Split-jamb style
    • Intended for use in existing construction
    • Installed after the completion of the framing and drywall phases
  • Borrowed lite (or welded) frames
    • One-piece style
    • Intended for use in new construction projects
    • Installed during the wall framing process

All NELCO window frames have mitered and welded corners for a strong, continuous seal. In each frame, a uniform sheet of lead in a specified thickness is formed and permanently attached. The lead thickness must correspond to the shielding level of the wall in which they are installed. Both styles have removable stops for field glazing.

Door Frames

NELCO lead-lined, hollow-metal door frames support the heavy weight of lead-lined doors while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing appearance. These doors and frames can be designed to suit various wall sizes and hardware specifications. Two types are available:

  • Hollow-metal knockdown frames
    • Three-piece style and intended for use in existing construction
  • Hollow-metal welded frames
    • One-piece style
    • Welded, mitered, and reinforced corners for a strong, continuous seal
    • Intended for use in new construction projects
    • Installed during the wall framing process

Out-swing and in-swing door configurations and custom sizes are offered. All NELCO door frames are manufactured from cold-rolled steel and prime-painted. A uniform sheet of lead in a specified thickness is permanently fixed around the perimeter of each frame.
